From the iconic stages of the “Eroica” to cycling routes
created to enjoy natural and artistic treasures,
Tuscany offers itineraries for all tastes
Few other destinations are a such an infinite concentration of scenic beauty as Toscany is.
Endless range of hills, intense scents and sounds that gently mark the time lapse: a place where amazement is renewed after every bend.
This region is the place of origin of the “Eroica”, cycling event that celebrates the honour of hard work and endeavour on vintage bicycles.
The heroes of Italian cycling history have competed here, and the “Tuscany Trail” event is also held here nowadays.
The biggest bikepacking event in the world, will take place this year from May the 27th to May the 29th; the route, consisting for the 66% of dirt roads, will touch the area of Sovicille, where the Borgo di San Lorenzo a Linari is located.
But the San Lorenzo mansion is also the starting point for easier, yet fascinating itineraries.
Some of them are stretches of the so-called “strade bianche”, the old dirt roads running through the hills of the Sienese countryside, where the creaking of pebbles on the road seems to take us back to childhood, to a world where the pace slows and time seems suspended.
Among the many beauties you can admire cycling, to the west is the village of Radicondoli and to the southeast the one of Murlo.
Perched on top of a hill, both the villages include pieces of history and culture within their walls.
In Trecciano you will cycle surrounded by vineyards producing an incomparable Chianti, that can also be tasted in the historic wine cellar.
If you ride through the Val di Merse in spring, it will seem to be immersed in a sea of greenery: meadows and woods create a surprising chromatic scale.
In this valley you can follow a permanent cycling route winding along secondary roads with little traffic.
Ideal for cycling even just for the sheer pleasure of doing it.
